How Will the AI Residency Program Support Student Entrepreneurs?
IIMA Ventures, the early-stage entrepreneurship and technology investment platform built at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad), has launched a dedicated AI Residency Program to help student entrepreneurs build artificial intelligence driven startups. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between technical talent and entrepreneurship by enabling students to transform innovative ideas into validated, scalable businesses.
The inaugural edition has attracted overwhelming interest, receiving more than 11,000 applications from students representing over 3,200 colleges across India. Following a rigorous selection process, 43 student founders have been chosen for the fully funded month-long residential program at the IIM Ahmedabad campus.
Why Did the Program Attract Such Strong Interest?
The overwhelming response highlights the growing enthusiasm among Indian students to build startups in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem. According to IIMA Ventures, the selected cohort reflects a strong mix of technical expertise, entrepreneurial ambition, and academic diversity.
While nearly 35% of the participants are from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the program also features students from Tier-II and Tier-III colleges, reinforcing its focus on merit-based selection rather than institutional background.
The cohort includes AI researchers, full stack developers, product builders, and aspiring entrepreneurs, showcasing the increasing depth of India’s AI talent pipeline.
What Will Participants Learn During the Residency?
The month long residential program is designed to provide hands-on exposure to startup building rather than classroom learning alone. Participants will work closely with experienced founders, venture capital investors, faculty members, and industry experts to understand how successful AI businesses are built and scaled.
The speaker lineup includes prominent startup leaders such as Akshay Akash, CEO of Stimuler; Naman Pushp of Airbound; Anurag Goel of Render; Prateek Sharma of Ahead VC; Prashant Singh of Jar; Vipul Vachhani, Founder and CEO of Jaivel Aerospace; and Surbhi Patni, Country Head at NovaSpace.
Through mentorship, networking, and practical guidance, the residency aims to help students identify real-world problems, validate business ideas, and develop commercially viable AI solutions.
